Deadbolt Debacle

So I was trying to add a door strike to my door since it really bugs me that one isn't there. No big deal right, just go to Home Depot, buy the strike and install. That's what I did and it took about 2 minutes. Until I tried to lock the door. That's when I realized why there wasn't one already there, the door strike area is cut wrong. So now I have to file down the strike to get it to fit all because someone a) couldn't do their job right and b) didn't take the time to at least put in a suitable fix. Right about nows a dremel would be good, or a metal file, or some tin snips, or something else I don't have. Anyway, I'll get it fixed probably tomorrow it's just dumb. Also, the lappy seems to keep freezing up randomly. I kind of remember this behavior from the last time it was a Windows machine and so I'm not using the Evil Winzero to control the network but rather something else. So far no freezey but that may all change, hopefully not. On a final note, I secured tickets to Nuggs - Celtics for a few weeks from now, who would have thought that the only tickets available would be > $100. I bet SpaceGhost would have thought, he's really smart.

The newest best friend

This is Big Buddy. He's my newest best friend. I think he'd have a blast with Xanja. It's been a few days since the last posting but not too much has gone on. I officially start my new job tomorrow, LTC MATLAB Generalist. I learned to double check maps generated from Google maps. Mandi and I finally went to use the Phantom Gourmet gift card this weekend at a restaurant in Westboro. The directions I got said Westboro but when we got there the restaurant was clearly not there. In fact, it was 10 East of where we were. But ah the beauty of cell phones, as long as you can get in touch with someone with internet you can get a new map no sweat. Dinner was good and it was nice because it was all totally free and Mandi dressed up (so did I, kinda). I'm really ready for the cold to be over. I also got one bday present this weekend form Mandi but thanks to The Nick. I think I'm done but if you want to check out the shirt, feel free (pre-hyperlinked for the lazy) http://www.threadless.com/product/383/The_Communist_Party

My new best friend

I recently got a new best friend. Her name is Daphne and she currently lives in Utah. She's a cutie but kinda shy around people (that's what I hear). She's a sheltie mix and lives at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Once (if ever) I get a scanner I'll put up the picture I have of her and her profile. Each month I'll tell you about my newest best friend. Xanja doesn't feel threatened but it's too bad she won't be able to meet and play with all of the new friends. If you want to help go to www.bestfriends.org (I linked it in case you are too lazy to copy the URL). Also, you can sponsor any animal not just dogs.

Russia Day

Today was a pretty relaxing day I must say. Hanging out at the park with Xanja for about 3 hours, then the Russian fun started. I went to the banya with my friend Igor. It was awesome. A bit different than the one in St. Petersburg but it was still great. I think I was the only non-Russian speaking person and that also means the only non-Russian. My minimal russian came in handy but I'm glad Igor was there to do all the talking. We spent about 3 hours there, hanging out and drinking tea. Then it was off to a Russian grocery store. I didn't get a whole lot but some cranberry juice, bread, butter and chocolate. So far I've had everything but the chocolate and it's been good. The real amazing thing is how relaxing it was, which means I'll have to do this again. The only bad part was the Russian women didn't show up until we were leaving, oh well it doesn't really matter anyway.

5 Dozen eggs for $3.98, what a deal!

Unfortunately I don't have any funny comments or stories to present, which begs the question then why are you writing? Maybe it's because some people count on this page, I dunno gotta nuke somethin'. Anyway, so I usually don't get super psyched for Valentine's Day but yesterday I decided to take a little trip to NYC and not take time off, for those more interested in math NYC + no time off = lots of driving - lots of sleep. Anyway, I made it through the day ok and I think I may retire early tonight. Who knows, maybe when I wake up I'll be $300 million richer but something tells me I won't.

Snow why I hate MA

Yup, lots and lots of snow. There was enough of a lull (for me) to drive Crazy Pants Johnson (aka Xanja) to the park. As you can see she had a great time. We played there for a couple hours and then made our way home. I also tried a new pizza dough recipe, the dough sucked, oh well. Anyway, maybe spring will come sometime.

It's that time again

This isn't really a content based post, but which really are? Here's a link to a special Valentine's day wish.

Happy Valentine's Day

Let's check out the fan mail bag

So Anonymous keeps commenting on my blog. That's super fantastic too bad I have no idea who you(s) are. So first I'll answer some fan mail (aka anonymous comments). Nope I'm not depressed just not a fan of Bush on tv, plus I thought the warm glow comment was killer. Also, is it really all about the beer? If you're a hippy it might be all about the beer if it is kind and veggie, otherwise who knows what it's all about. According to my school marching band, the Hokie Pokie is what it's all about. But to me it, but depends who's paying. With that out of the way I can make a few more statements which may or may not hold any relevance. It seems to me that cooking eggs is easier than cooking chicken. I wonder if that holds true for all adult/child cooking relationships. Also, becareful with eggshells they can actually break skin. I'll leave you all with some words of advice, if you're making chili with real chiles, either a) take your contacts out first or b)wear gloves, chile oil and eyeballs don't like eachother.

Caution: Nerd Alert!

I don't know how many people even read this but I know that there is one person who really likes it when I'm extra nerdy, so here goes. I finally got my new mini-pci wireless card for the lappy. (The old one broke or something because my computer wouldn't boot with it in. Not just wouldn't boot but wouldn't even POST and I'm not talking cereal). Anyway, put the new card in today and viola the network is recognized. However, I used the application that came with the card and that didn't like to connect to the internet so I've got Windows managing it now and hurray. Anyway, so lots of good things today, good work to do, good bonus, good bonus coming, taxes done and a good refund coming. If only Xanja got to the park today, but soon enough.

Oh Animaniacs where are you when I need you?

Let's play a little game of good idea bad idea. What a great segment of cartoon history that was and before we get started big ups to Coconut Fred's Fruit Salad. Good idea, fresh mozzarella grilled sandie made at home. Bad idea, cooking the pizza crust bread for too long. Good idea trying to use the Foreman as a panini press, bad idea having really crusty bread in the Foreman. Ok so really that's it, the experiment was mostly a success just a few tweaks to be had. Also, on a similar but completely different note I think grocery shopping may be cheaper when you make things from scratch. Like the ravioli and meat sauce, all I needed was a can of maters and some ground beef, I've already got the flour and lord knows I've got more eggs these days. I never really knew that eggs come in crates that look like bedding until I started buying 5 dozen eggs at a time. One last note, why couldn't the state of the union wait a day Weds. night has no good tv and I'm in a tv watching kinda mood. Oh well, one warming glow is as good as another I guess.
